Day 1

When thinking about what I want to do in my life, 'Write a book' is often one of the first ideas that comes to mind. This seems to be a common thought, and it's easy to see why.
To write a book is to leave your mark on the world. Unless you have a very large internet following, who are prepared to read some very long posts, your book will be the most polished and most organised collection of your thoughts that you could ever create.  Books, fiction or non-fiction, contain much of the author's mind, and can take a significant part of their lives to complete. Their works are then released for anyone to read, interpret, and judge. If a person only writes one book, then that book will often be the main way that the world will see and judge them, and how history will remember them.

That's a daunting prospect. As a result, only a tiny, tiny percentage of the people that say they want to write a book, or even begin to do so, ever complete or publish their work.

To overcome this barrier, I have decided to embark on a project, a 'Habitual Writing Experiment', if I'm still calling it that by the end. Every day, I will write something, anything, and post it in the development log of this book. It may be a short story, a poem, a rant; anything goes, as long as I sit to write each day. There may be times when I cannot post directly on Itch.io, but I will still write, everyday, and post it as soon as I can.

By making a consistent, but not too frightening, effort each day, I will slowly get better at writing, and will eventually have written a whole book, almost without realizing it.

If you've been struggling to get started on your book, want to improve at writing, or just want to try and get the creative juices flowing each day, then I invite you to take this journey with me. Feel free to follow my dev-log to read each days post. If I write something, I won't remove it, because each sentence is part of the learning process.

I honestly have no idea what to expect from this, or what will come from it; but I know that I will have written a book. I will have left my mark on the world. You may have too.

And that will always be something to be proud of.
