Day 34

Day 34:

When something goes wrong, especially when you know it's at least partially your fault, you can find yourself replaying the events in your mind. Thinking about the 'What if's'.

"Maybe I should have said something here, or said something different." "Maybe I should have called this out ages ago, maybe it could've all been avoided if I'd have just done x, y, z." "Maybe I could've done more."

Of course, it's important to think retrospectively about our actions, it's a key part of personal growth. However, doing so in the immediate aftermath of an event is not going to help you reach good conclusions. You are often still in the emotional heat of the event, and we may blame ourselves for something that may be obvious in hindsight, but was almost impossible to predict at the time.

Instead, I'm trying to ask myself "What can I do right now, to make things better? To sort things out?". This can have a positive impact on the people involved, yourself included. Instead of channelling the energy into regret, we can channel it into the improvement of a situation that is still ongoing. I'm going to do that now.
