Day 37
Day 37:
One day I ordered a parcel. It was a very interesting parcel, a very special parcel, a parcel which contained my future in a box. The parcel was a set of Pokemon cards, not too old, not too new. I hope to hold them for a long time, before selling them again years down the line, like an investment. I get to look at them on my shelf in the meantime.
Anyway, I ordered this parcel, but it was going to take days to arrive. And when you are waiting for your future to arrive in a box, days feel like lifetimes. After going out into the garden on my morning walk, I'd ask "Mum, has my parcel come yet?".
"No, your parcel hasn't arrived yet" she replied. I was disappointed.
After going out to the shops and coming back I'd say "Mum, has my parcel arrived yet?"
"No, your parcel hasn't arrived yet" she replied. I was dejected.
After coming home from school I'd say "Mum, has my parcel arrived yet?"
"No, your parcel hasn't arrived yet! It'll come when it comes," she replied. This was terrible.
Had the post person forgotten about me? Maybe the shipment was lost, or the Pokemon Company had collapsed, and nobody had told me! 3 days, nothing takes that long!
Then one day, I came inside the house and asked "Mum, has my parcel arrived yet?"
"Yes, but they couldn't deliver it. Your dad was out with you and I was outside and couldn't get it. You'll need to pick it up from the depot".
This was even more terrible! It had come so close, yet so far! The box had absorbed molecules from my front doorstep, but I still did not have my precious cards! They could be anywhere, the very footing of my financial future rested on getting these cards! At last, we were able to go to the depot, picking them up, safe and sound. I clutched at the box as I walked through the front door.
"Finally!" said my mother. "We can stop talking about this parcel at long last!"
"Don't worry mum, I've ordered another one! It should come in a few days!"
"This is terrible", she must have thought.
