Day 65
Day 65:
This is my pink formal shirt.
It pairs well with floral ties, black trousers, and a dark blazer or waistcoat. At least, it does in my eyes. Fashion seems to be akin to other creative areas, like music, or game design. While there are basic principles of fashion, and things that are known to work and not work, it seems almost impossible to make an objectively wrong fashion decision. For example, I am not known for my fashion prowess, but if I walked into a shop wearing my pink formal shirt, along with a bright green blazer, white shorts and beige slip-on shoes, could someone walk up to me and say "Excuse me, you are wearing the wrong clothes."? Subjectively speaking, those clothes are probably not the best attire to wear to Iceland in October. However, objectively speaking, I don't think that they can be considered 'wrong'.
They say in these creative sectors, that there are only 'strong' decisions and 'less strong' decisions. If I were to modify this outfit by replacing the beige slip-on shoes with swimming flippers, then it would likely be considered a 'less strong' decision in the circumstances. Likewise, if I were to add a fedora hat to the outfit, then that would be a very 'strong' decision, and frankly, completely turn the outfit around into something stylish. At least, in my subjective opinion :). Of course, what defines 'strong' and 'less strong' will be different depending on who you ask, so there could likely be no universal consensus on what would be a 'less strong' decision. Personally, I subjectively think that my pink formal shirt is a 'strong' decision, for a variety of settings and occasions. I'm sure that many people would say that it is a 'less strong' decision, and that's ok and to be expected.
Fashion, along with many other creative outlets, is a means of expression, and it's important that these outlets are protected, since they mean a great deal to all of us, in some way. To say that someone's clothing choice is objectively wrong, would also to be to (by extension) call their taste, or even part of who they are, objectively 'wrong'. That is something which, in my subjective opinion, we should all try to avoid.
