Day 99

Day 99:

Ok. Stop, wait, breathe.

I'm sat at a desk.

I, I've done this before. Haven't I? This is, in effect, what I said that I wouldn't do. Is this writing? I can't seem to focus on, a piece of fiction, or my reality. It's a, blank ball of fuzz, wobbling around in my head. Is that why they call it, grey matter? Does anything in there matter, right now? Imagine ideas are like eggs. Over time, you'll get a steady stream of eggs coming into your hutch (that's your brain). When the mind is calm, you can gently take the eggs out, examine them with care, and logically decide what to do with them. However, if the mind is unsettled or confused, it shakes and rattles around. Then, you get scrambled eggs, and you can't put them back the way that they were before. If you are very careful, though, it would be theoretically possible to stick your arm into this unstable hutch, and catch the egg just as it falls, so it doesn't shake and break inside the hutch. This is what happens when you drop everything and take note of an idea as soon as it comes to your mind. But this requires vigilance and immediate action, which is very tricky when the mind is unsettled.

Of course, no farmer goes to market with just one egg. To make a decent living out of just the eggs, you have to accumulate thousands and thousands of them, and keep them in very good condition for people to buy them. Some customers will buy a few eggs and cook them, turning them into something completely new. Bulk customers may buy lots of eggs to stock their own, larger, more commercial store, or use them for catering (making lots of the same new thing, and selling that). It's important to remember that, once you break an egg, and turn it into something new, that unique egg is gone. It will never arise again. Sure, you can get lots of eggs that look and smell and feel and taste like that egg, but no egg will ever be exactly like it.

While it would be nice to be able to preserve the eggs, this is impossible. Even in optimal conditions, all eggs go off eventually. They change and can morph into something quite horrible. If people really want to make them last, then they pickle the eggs, but this makes them, unappealing to most. If they really want to preserve an idea, then they can ferment the egg, and those eggs are often really rancid. You could save those eggs up for something really cool that you want to make, but they won't be the same if you leave them for too long. It's best to use the eggs while they are still fresh. The beauty in combining the eggs together, and mixing them in with other things, is that you can create something greater than the egg itself could ever be. Sure, that omelette might be just, "ok", and you'll forget about it after you've eaten it, but it will have been a unique experience, that you can either abandon or refine with your next lot of eggs.

But once in a while, you might make something truly amazing with those eggs. Something totally new, that people really enjoy. You could even become well-known for your 'Spicy kale and potato fried omelette with soy sauce'. Over time, you can refine and replicate that too. You never stop using your eggs to make new things, though. If you do, then all the eggs will go bad, and go to waste. Even if you grow to dislike your creation, or move on to other things, there is no better feeling in the world than having somebody come up to you and say,

"I really like that 'Spicy kale and potato fried omelette with soy sauce' that you came up with. What a great idea."
